th season of LETU men's basketball commenced as scripted in Friday's 79-67 victory over Texas Lutheran at Solheim Arena.
Seven months after being named the 21
st head coach in Yellowjackets history, head coach
James Wallace earned his first-career victory. The balanced offensive attack and swarming defense was too much for the Bulldogs, which dropped to 1-2.
LETU's
Warren Richardson led a quartet in double-digit scoring en route to his career night. He posted his first double-double, netting 22 points, 12 rebounds, with three blocks and two steals.
In a contest that featured nine lead changes and five ties, the Yellowjackets led nearly 30 minutes. The two sides traded shots and mini runs in the first ten minutes, when Texas Lutheran held most of its advantages.
Trailing 19-16 with 10 minutes left in the opening half, LETU closed on a 21-12 spurt, carrying a 37-31 edge to the locker room.
The Yellowjackets pushed their lead back out to double digits in the first five minutes of the final period. The Bulldogs chipped away over the next seven minutes, moving in front with 8:27 remaining.
Jordan Pride's stepback jumper nudged the home side out front for the final time, with their largest lead of the contest coming at 78-61 with just over a minute remaining.
