YellowJackets to collect Toys for Tots at ETBU game Dec. 11

LONGVIEW, Texas – YellowJacket fans, you can help provide toys to children in the local area who would not have presents this year if not for your help.

YellowJackets and the United Way of Longview are teaming up to collect toys at Solheim Arena during Saturday's doubleheader between LETU and ETBU. The women's game tips off at 1 p.m., followed by the men's contest.

A collection box will be located at the main entrance to the arena. Fans are encouraged to bring at least one new, unwrapped toy for a needy youngster in Longview. This is a win-win situation for all. Drop off a new toy to brighten a child's day and cheer on the YellowJackets as they host the Tigers.

For over 70 years, Greater Longview United Way has been an integral part of Longview and beyond, working diligently to support organizations that speak directly to the needs of our community in the areas of education, financial stability, and health. One thing that has remained constant throughout our history is that we are better together than apart.

ABOUT GREATER LONGVIEW UNITED WAY:
WHO WE ARE
Our mission is to improve the Education, Financial Stability, and Health of every person in our community. We are able to do this by raising funds that are granted to local partner agencies for programs that meet these needs. We currently partner with 20 agencies to provide 37 programs here in East Texas. Each funded program is thoroughly vetted by teams of local volunteers to ensure your gift is used to benefit people in our community.

In addition to the 37 programs that we support, we also operate three initiatives that support our primary mission.

  • Each year, the Volunteer Income Assistance (VITA) program brings in over $1,000,000 in tax refunds to taxpayers in our community.
  • The INFOline of Gregg County helps connect people in need to resources provided by local agencies.
  • The SingleCare prescription savings card program helps those unable to afford needed medications.

WHAT WE DO
We UNITE the caring power of our community in order to improve the lives of every individual. To achieve this mission our work falls into three focus areas: Education, Financial Stability, and Health.

In order to make the greatest impact in achieving our goals, we partner with 20 local agencies that operate 37 programs that address these basic needs. In addition to fundraising and providing support for our partner agencies, we have developed initiatives to address critical needs such as tax assistance for low-income families, prescription drug discounts to ease health care costs, and a database of available programs to better connect the community to available services.
