LONGVIEW, Texas -- The Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) has named LeTourneau Vice President for Athletics
Dr. Tim Sceggel as the chairperson of its Athletics Commission.
"The establishment of the Athletics Commission is an exciting milestone, particularly because it aligns so closely with the mission of LeTourneau Athletics to integrate faith and intercollegiate athletics," Sceggel said.
Sceggel is entering his fifth year as the Vice President for Athletics at LeTourneau and has spearheaded several initiatives that have elevated YellowJacket athletics. Under his mission of "Cultivating Disciples and Pursuing Excellence," he has worked to make LeTourneau a destination spot for student-athletes and coaches who strive to pursue Christ while also excelling in their sport. He guided the department into the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in 2025, marking the first conference membership move for the University since joining NCAA Division III.
Among his many accomplishments in his short time at LeTourneau, Sceggel has overseen five conference championships, 10 individual conference champions, five All-Americans, seven conference athletes of the year, and 282 all-conference honorees. The department has set records for student-athlete GPAs, had every program achieve a 3.0 GPA in each of the last seven semesters, and annually places over 100 on conference all-academic teams.Â
"I am honored to serve on this inaugural Commission as we work together to strengthen and advance the Christ-centered mission of Christian college athletics across the country," added Sceggel.
The CCCU works closely with a strong network of volunteer leaders who serve in key administrative roles across its member campuses. These groups, called commissions, advise the CCCU on relevant topics, assist with conference planning and speaker selection, and serve as a resource and connection point for colleagues in similar roles throughout Christian higher education.
The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities is a higher education association of more than 170 Christ-centered institutions worldwide. Since 1976, the CCCU has served as a leading voice for Christian higher education, advancing its mission to transform lives by faithfully integrating scholarship, service, and biblical truth. With more than 130 campuses in the U.S. and Canada and 30 additional campuses across 18 countries, CCCU institutions are accredited, comprehensive universities dedicated to cultivating graduates who think deeply, act justly, and live faithfully.
