WBB tames Concordia 69-51


AUSTIN, Texas – The LETU women's basketball team claimed a 69-51 triumph over Concordia Texas at the Concordia Fieldhouse Sunday.

The YellowJackets improved to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in American Southwest Conference play, moving them in a tie with Hardin-Simmons for the third best mark in league play. CTX dropped to 3-7, 1-4.

Playing their second game in as many days, LETU responded from a slow start on the offensive end, building a 35-22 halftime cushion. Holding a three-point edge with seven minutes remaining in the second period, the YellowJackets closed the quarter with a 16-6 run. They utilized an 11-0 spurt to create some breathing room.

After the pause, LETU methodically tacked onto its margin, doubling up the opposition and grabbing its largest advantage at 52-30 with 4:23 to go in the third.

Following the final media timeout, the YellowJackets emptied their bench with a 20-point margin.

Series and Team Notes:
•   LETU improves to 307-419 all-time, including 175-297 in the NCAA era.
•  The YellowJackets are 140-276 in American Southwest Conference Play.
•   Concordia Texas leads the all-time series, 9-5. LETU has two-straight wins over the Tornados.
•   The YellowJackets begin their Christmas break. They return to action at Trinity in San Antonio Dec. 30.

Player Notes:
•   Allaira Jones dropped in a game-high 17 points, with six rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
•   This is the 37th double-digit scoring performance in her career, accomplishing the feat in every game this season.
•   Malacia Guy totaled 16 points, four rebounds and five assists.
•   Keauna Whitfield registered six points, seven rebounds, six steals and one assist.
•   Ajane Thomas netted 14 points and grabbed a game-high eight boards.
•   Ty Moon, Jordon McClenton, Allaiya Jones, Michaelah Igaya, Kylie Ashman, Lilly Chamberlin, Caroline Hutchinson and Kiara McElroy saw action off the bench.
•   McElroy made her YellowJackets debut.
