YellowJackets Bulldoze Blazers to Keep Tourney Hopes Alive

LONGVIEW – LeTourneau University's men's soccer team secured a big 4-1 win over Belhaven Saturday in the final home game.
 
The win kept the YellowJackets' American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament hopes alive. LETU improved to 5-5 overall, 2-4 in the ASC East Division. The top four teams in each of the ASC's East and West Divisions qualify for the postseason tournament.
 
LeTourneau, which sits in fifth place in the East, plays at the University of the Ozarks 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the regular season finale. Fourth place Belhaven (2-3, 2-3) has two games remaining.
 
LeTourneau's Santi De La Torre had a goal and two assists for a career-high four points. It was the first time in his three-year Jackets career De La Torre has had a hand on three goals in a game.
 
De La Torre found the back of the net in the 20th minute when he banged home a goal off a pass through the box by Oliver Placencia to put LeTourneau up 1-0. De La Torre had an assist on the game's second goal when Beau Weber pounded it into the net in the 22nd minute. It was Weber's first career goal.
 
The YellowJackets led 2-0 at halftime. LeTourneau outshot Belhaven, 6-4, in the first half.
 
A little over two minutes into the second half, Chancey Davis gave LETU a 3-0 lead when he scored his fourth goal of the year on an assist from De La Torre. Noah Garcia scored his third goal of the year on an assist from Neil Ayvar in the 86th minute.
 
Belhaven broke up the shutout when Brady Jacobs scored 35 seconds after Garcia's goal.
 
LeTourneau starting goalkeeper CJ Leyva had two saves in just under 63 minutes between the posts to record his fourth win of the year. Kolton Johnson replaced him in the 63rd minute. Blazers keeper Max Rudolph made three saves.
 
The YellowJackets outshot the Blazers on goal, 7-3. LETU attempted 10 corner kicks to Belhaven's five.
 
LeTourneau went 4-3 at home this season.
