Yellowjackets Fall on the Road to Panthers

Box Score:

BIRMINGHAM – LeTourneau University's men's soccer team dropped the second game of its weekend road trip to Birmingham-Southern College Sunday afternoon, losing 4-1.

A tight contest in the first half, the Panthers drew first blood after they caught a fortunate break when the YellowJackets made a shot into its own goal, giving BSC the 1-0 lead. The Jackets stung its way back into the game when Chino Rojas booted one to the back of the net off a rebound shot from Nahum Serrano in the 37th minute, knotting the game at one going into the second half.

LETU found themselves down early in the second half. A penalty committed inside the box by the YellowJackets in the 45th minute gave BSC's Trey Hines a penalty kick that he nailed past LETU goalkeeper CJ Leyva, giving Birmingham-Southern a 2-1 advantage. The Panthers would go on to score two more unanswered goals, one at the 65th minute mark and another at the 84th. Coleman Jennings was responsible for both goals for BSC, granting the Panthers a 4-1 lead.

The Jackets' Niko Stavros had a shot at the bottom center of the net in the first half but was rejected by Birmingham-Southern's goalkeeper Jack Hunt. Russell Gray and Noah Garcia both attempted to find the back of the Panthers but key saves by BSC's goalkeeper Leo Reyes halted the hopes of a scoring play.

Leyva had a season-high 10 saves. Hunt and Reyes had one and two saves, respectively.
