WBB escapes with win at Belhaven

Hardeman sinks game winner with 10 seconds left

JACKSON, Miss. Kyndall Hardeman's bucket with 10 seconds remaining lifted LETU to a 67-65 victory over Belhaven Saturday.

The YellowJackets escaped Rugg Arena at Heidelburg Gym with an important American Southwest Conference victory, improving to 9-6 overall, including 6-4 against leagues foes. They remain fifth in league standings, while the Blazers are ninth at 7-6, 3-6.

Malacia Guy handed out a career-high 12 assists, the last coming on a perfect delivering to Hardeman, who was slicing through the defense. After a pair of dribbles, she finished at the glass, snapping the tie. An 18-foot jumper by Shomaria Overton came up short and Keauna Whitfield sealed the result by corralling the errant attempt at the horn.

In a seesaw affair that featured 13 lead changes with the sides traded quarters, with Belhaven holding the advantage in the first and third, while the YellowJackets claimed the second and fourth.

Trailing by five after one frame, LETU outscored the opposition 17-10 in the second and held a 35-33 margin at the half. Heading to the final 10 minutes of action, Belhaven clung to a four-point margin.

Making just 19 of 55 attempts from the floor, including 1 of 19 from distance through three periods, LETU began to work the ball inside and had its best quarter in the final 10 minutes. The YellowJackets drained 9 of 14 in the stanza, attempting just one from three-point range.

LETU finishes with four of its final six regular season games at Solheim Arena, beginning Thursday, Feb. 3, when the YellowJackets host UMHB at 5:30
