Men's Soccer Draws 2-2 Against Reigning ASC Champs

LONGVIEW, Texas -- A couple of days after an intense draw on Thursday, the LeTourneau men's soccer team played to a draw against the visiting and former conference champions Concordia.

The match went back and forth bringing goals to both sides to find a draw in the end. The draw brings the YellowJackets to 4-2-4 overall and 0-0-2 in conference play, bringing their unbeaten streak up to eight.

Concordia improves to 5-1-2 and 1-0-1 in the conference moving up to the top of the table early on in conference play.

The match was a back-and-forth brawl. The Tornadoes opened up the scoring early in the first half with a nice play passing the ball up and through the Jackets' defense and Melvin Molina was able to put one in the goal off the assists of Yael Sanchez and Theo Givens. The YellowJackets wasted no time in an answer as Keaton Johnson was able to drive one through the back of the net off of a nice pass from SyedZain who records the assist there.

A little later on Concordia was able to put one past Kolton Johnson, the Keeper for the Jackets, in a nice cross that was put across the middle by Antonio Rios for Timothy Barney to put in the net. This led to a Tornado advantage over the YellowJackets at halftime. Concordia not only lead on the scoreboard but also on the shots taken in the first half leading 6-1, but LeTourneau was able to make that one count and that is what they took into halftime.

The YellowJackets fought to even up the score with Garrett Thom putting one past Joshua Redding, the goalie for the Tornadoes, Garrett took the shot to tie it up from just inside the 18-yard line and rifled it in with just 18 minutes to play in the match. The Jackets fought hard the rest of the match to ensure the draw and kept seeking out counterattack opportunities. A few breakaway runs came up but they were not able to capitalize on them.

Concordia lead the stat sheet recording a total of 17 shots with six of them going on frame compared to the YellowJackets' six shots with four of them on target. A good result for LeTourneau as they start to make their way into the depths of conference play.
