Volleyball Caps Perfect Week with Win at McMurry

ABILENE, Texas -- The LeTourneau volleyball team capped off an impressive week with a 3-1 win (15-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-20) over McMurry on Saturday afternoon.

The win capped a 3-0 week for LeTourneau (10-5, 6-3 ASC), with all three victories coming on the road. The victory also gave the YellowJackets sole possession of second in the ASC standings.

After dropping the first set, the YellowJackets rallied back with wins over the next three to earn the four-set win. 

Three players registered double-digit kills for LeTourneau as Avery Mabery Morgan led the way with 12 while Hannah Payan had 11 and Kaci Monk 10. Monk hit .300 in the match and Alexis Bowen Johnson add six kills, with a .444 percentage, and three blocks. Setters Natalie Davenport (23 assists, 10 digs) and Reina Lawson (20 assists, 10 digs) each had double-doubles. Morgan Nix totaled 31 digs.

The YellowJackets responded well after a tough first set. LeTourneau recorded 13 kills in the second set and led by as many as six after a kill from Allison Smith made it 15-9. McMurry trimmed the margin to one point later, but LeTourneau never relinquished the lead to even the match with a 25-21 win.

The third set was all LeTourneau. The visitors tallied 16 kills in the frame and sprinted out to an 11-2 lead after a 9-0 scoring run. The lead extend to 10 on three occasions in the game before a Lawson kill secured the 25-17 win for the YellowJackets.

LeTourneau put the match away with a 25-20 win in the fourth. The tightest game in the match saw nine ties and five lead changes, but it was a four-point run that gave the YellowJackets the lead for good. Back-to-back kills from Meghan Womack and Morgan gave LeTourneau an 18-13 lead. The YellowJackets led by as many as seven down the stretch to close out the road victory.

Addyson Tiffin had 14 kills for McMurry (6-8, 3-5 ASC), while Ashlyn Quillan had 34 assists.

LeTourneau has a week off from ASC play and will travel to Shreveport on Oct. 8 to play University of Dallas and Centenary.
