Volleyball Bounces Back to Defeat Wiley

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau volleyball team bounced back to defeat non-conference opponent, Wiley, 3-1 (22-25, 25-15,25-23, 25-21) Friday evening.

LeTourneau (12-7) after playing their 19th game on the season sits in fourth place in the American Southwest Conference. The win was a nice way to build momentum before heading to play UT Dallas tomorrow.

The first started with the YellowJackets taking a nice 5-2 lead on a Kill by Allison Smith and a solid ace from Natalie Davenport. However, Wiley did strike back with a pair of aces from Kailie Willaims of Wiley. The set continued to be back and forth until the Wildcats were able to go on a seven-point run to make the score 24-21 and then they were able to finish it off 25-22 for set one.

The YellowJackets were quick to respond by jumping to a 10-3 lead with a solid five-point service run for Morgan Nix. The Wildcats were not able to recover as the Jackets took the set 25-15 to even up the match one set apiece.

The Wildcats were not so easy to let up in set three as they fought to get to an 11-7 lead early on. The YellowJackets were able to keep the score within reach as the Wildcats continued in gaining a 21-18 advantage. At this point, the Jackets regained the lead through a kill by Emma Smith, a block from Kaci Monk and Alexis Bowen Johnson, and another kill from Bowen Johnson making the score 22-21 in favor of the YellowJackets. LeTourneau went on to win the set 25-23 to take a 2-1 lead heading into set four.

The fourth set was a set of service streaks. LeAndria Jackson of Wiley was able to serve on a run of five points to give the Wildcats an early 13-8 lead. The YellowJackets were able to make a nice run themselves with Nix serving for seven straight consisting of a pair of aces from the libero to take a 19-16 lead. the Jackets went on to win the set 25-21 while also clinching the match.

Hannah Payan recorded a double-double with 18 kills and 15 digs. Nix contributed 20 digs and five aces in her outing.

Reina Lawson was able to put up 25 assists and three kills. Natalie Davenport had 13 assists and nine digs.

Bowen Johnson was a force at the net with seven kills and seven block assists. Allison Smith and Avery Mabery Morgan both put up four kills and five assists.

UP NEXT

LeTourneau will return to conference play tomorrow traveling to UT Dallas looking for a win after losing in a close five-set match earlier this season. The match is scheduled for 1 PM.
