Nix Sets Program Record as Volleyball Outlasts Concordia

LONGVIEW, Texas -- Morgan Nix broke a program single-match record with 46 digs and the LeTourneau volleyball team outlasted visiting Concordia, 3-1 (24-26, 25-22, 26-24, 26-24), in ASC action inside Solheim Arena on Friday night.

The crucial victory for LeTourneau (14-8, 7-5 ASC) put the YellowJackets in third place in the ASC. The win also completed a season sweep of Concordia (11-9, 7-6 ASC).

Nix set a program record with her 46 digs, topping the previous mark of 43 by Jessica Zabonjik -- which also came against Concordia in 2010. It was the second time this year Nix tallied 40-plus digs and the eighth time she eclipsed 30 digs in a match.

LeTourneau persevered through adversity to rally for the win. The YellowJackets dropped the first set and also lost Hannah Payan for the match due to injury in the first set.

Those obstacles didn't faze the hosts as LeTourneau responded to win each of the final three sets. Meghan Womack tallied a team-high 12 kills while Kaci Monk and Avery Morgan had 10 kills apiece in the win. Kaylyn Taylor came on for Payan and recorded eight kills with 13 digs.

Natalie Davenport notched a double-double with 25 assists and 18 digs with Reina Lawson adding 23 assists and nine digs. Allison Smith led the front row with three blocks to go with her seven kills, while Payan compiled six kills.

LeTourneau led for nearly all of the second set as the YellowJackets evened the match at 1-1. Kills from Taylor and Monk gave LeTourneau a 14-9 lead and the hosts held off a late charge from Concordia to take a 25-22 win.

Extra points were needed in both the third and fourth sets, but LeTourneau came away victorious both times. The YellowJackets had 15 kills in the third set and led 21-16 before the visiting Tornados rallied to tie the score at 22-22. Monk and Taylor came up big again as their kills gave LeTourneau a 24-23 lead. After the Tornados tied the score again, a kill from Womack followed by a Concordia error gave the set to LeTourneau.

In the fourth, LeTourneau rallied once more. Down 21-19, Womack had two kills sandwiched around a combined block with Smith to give the YellowJackets a 22-21 edge. Two rallies later, Smith cleaned up an overpass for a kill to give LeTourneau a 23-22 lead. Two straight from the Tornados gave the visitors a 24-23 lead, but two errors and a kill from Morgan sealed the win for LeTourneau.

Kinsy Haschke had 14 kills and 25 digs with four blocks to lead Concordia, while Savannah Kari added 13 kills. Selena Cooper totaled 35 assists and Kaitlyn Ruiz had 20 digs.
