CLARKSVILLE, Ark. -- The LeTourneau men's soccer team held off Ozarks, 2-1, to gain three points on the table.
LeTourneau (5-6-4, 1-4-2 ASC) takes down the Ozarks Eagles (10-3-4, 3-2-2 ASC) to boost postseason hopes for the YellowJackets.
LeTourneau was tested early in the first half when they gave up a penalty kick in the 14th minute.
Raul Torrez, YelllowJackets' keeper, was up to the challenge making a diving save on the keeper's left side to keep the match scoreless.
LeTourneau took that momentum and turned it into a goal on the other side of the field as
Keaton Johnson played a pass that ricocheted across the middle where
Syed Zain was able to clean it up and put it in the back of the net to give the YellowJackets a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute.
The Jackets were able to remain on the attack as
Emad Mohamed was able to take a nice shot on frame which was parried back toward the penalty mark where
Russell Gray was able to put the Jackets up 2-0 in the 31st minute.
Going into the half with a two-point advantage, the YellowJackets made the most of their opportunities having only three shots on goal and five total compared to the Ozarks having five on frame and nine total.
The second half remained scoreless until the 89th minute when Alain Claude was able to break up the clean sheet for LeTourneau making the score 2-1 in favor of the Jackets.
Raul Torrez ended the night with seven saves playing all 90 minutes in the net for the YellowJackets. Caleb Anderson was in net for all 90 minutes for the Ozarks who saw five shots on goal and made three saves.
