Volleyball Falls to McMurry in Home Finale

LONGVIEW, Texas -- In a tightly played match, the LeTourneau volleyball team fell to ASC foe McMurry, 3-1 (23-25, 27-25, 27-25, 25-13), in the regular season home finale on Tuesday night inside Solheim Arena.

LeTourneau (14-10, 7-7 ASC) remains in a good spot to reach the ASC Tournament heading into the final two road matches of the year this weekend.

Morgan Nix, fresh off being named the ASC Defensive Player of the Week earlier on Tuesday, tallied 23 digs and became LeTourneau's all-time single-season record holder for digs in the process. Nix, who leads the ASC and ranks in the top-five nationally in digs, has 608 digs topping the previous mark of 604 by Cam Taylor in 2019.

Kaci Monk had 12 kills while Allison Smith and Avery Mabery Morgan had eight kills apiece. Smith added five blocks and eight digs. Kaylyn Taylor totaled seven kills and 13 digs. Natalie Davenport had 20 assists with five digs and Reina Lawson recorded 19 assists with four digs.

LeTourneau took the opening set, 25-23, as the YellowJackets had 15 kills in the frame. The hosts trailed 16-12 in the set, but evened up the score at 20-20 after a kill from Monk. Another kill from Monk and an ace from Nix -- one of three on the night for her -- put the YellowJackets ahead 23-22. After McMurry tied the score again, a service error and a kill from Smith gave LeTourneau the set.

The second and third sets featured a combined 24 ties and seven lead changes as both were decided by the minimum. LeTourneau led 22-19 in the second set before McMurry used a 5-1 run to take a 24-23 lead and finished off the rally with an ace to even the match. In the third, the team traded points over the final 10 rallies before McMurry took the final two to earn a 27-25 win.

McMurry (12-10, 8-7 ASC) led throughout in the fourth to take the win.

Addyson Tiffin had 15 kills with four blocks to lead the visiting War Hawks. Lexi Miller added a triple-double with 11 kills, 23 assists, and 14 digs.
