BROWNWOOD, Texas --
Kaci Monk had 11 kills and
Morgan Nix totaled 38 digs to lead the LeTourneau volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-14, 22-25, 25-20, 25-16) win at Howard Payne on Friday night in ASC action.
The win was key for LeTourneau (15-10, 8-7 ASC) as the YellowJackets continue to jockey for positioning in next week's ASC Tournament.Â
Monk was efficient once again on Friday night as she tallied 11 kills with a .345 hitting percentage to go with four digs.
Kaylyn Taylor also registered double-digit kills with her 10, while
Avery Mabery Morgan had eight. Nix notched her ninth match of 30-plus digs with 38 in the win.
Reina Lawson added 20 assists, three aces, and eight digs with
Natalie Davenport going for a double-double of 17 assists and 10 digs.
LeTourneau dominated the first set to take a 25-14 win. The YellowJackets posted 11 kills, but also had four aces in the set win and scored the final seven points. Monk had two kills and Nix added two aces during the final stretch.
Howard Payne (3-22, 1-14 ASC) rallied in the second set to even the match at a set apiece.
LeTourneau responded with a key run to take the third set. Leading by two (16-14), LeTourneau scored four of the next five -- capped by a
Ty Shannon ace -- to go ahead 20-15. Later in the set, Morgan and Lawson had back-to-back kills before a Taylor kill gave the YellowJackets a 25-20 set win.
The YellowJackets capped the win in the fourth set. Down 4-1 early, LeTourneau rattled off a 12-1 scoring run to take a commanding lead at 13-5.
Amya Orn had a pair of kills during the run. LeTourneau led by at least six the rest of the way to earn the victory.
Shannon added 11 digs for LeTourneau and
Allison Smith had five total blocks (two solo, three assisted).
Howard Payne was led by 14 kills from Rylee Spencer, 38 assists from Kaitlyn Elsten, and 21 digs from Riley Brittain.
