MARSHALL, Texas -- The LeTourneau women's basketball team concluded the ETBU Classic on Saturday afternoon with a 94-48 loss to No. 6 Christopher Newport inside Ornelas Gym.
It was the first all-time meeting between LeTourneau (1-1) and Christopher Newport (3-0).
Johnai Wimbleduff led the YellowJackets with 12 points and seven rebounds, while
Ajanae Thomas added 10 points and three rebounds.
Ty Moon totaled eight points and two rebounds.
Facing a nationally-ranked foe for the first time this year, LeTourneau hung with the Captains through the opening period. The YellowJackets trailed by 10 midway through the period, but a
Bailey Broughton 3-pointer got LeTourneau within 14-7. A flurry of points late in the period extended CNU's l;ead to 22-11.
The Captains extended the margin in the second quarter and led 41-16 at the break.
LeTourneau hit six 3-pointers in the contest, with Thomas draining three. The YellowJackets connected on 36.2 percent (17-of-47) for the game.
CNU, ranked No. 6 in the preseason D3hoops.com Top 25, received 20 points and seven rebounds from Hannah Kaloi, while Katy Rader had 12 points and five steals. The Captains made 53.5 percent (38-of-71) from the field with six 3-pointers and scored 39 points off turnovers.
