CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – Malacia Guy fuels large second half by LETU in 70-63, win over Ozarks at Mabee Gymnasium Saturday.
The YellowJackets finished the regular season with at 13-8 overall, including 10-6 in American Southwest Conference play, finishing fifth. They qualified for the conference tournament for the third year in succession and seventh all-time. The Eagles dropped to 7-15, 4-13, missing the championship for the third-straight year.
Trailing 49-47, with a minute remaining in the third quarter, LETU rattled off a 12-0 run, including seven points in one trip down the court.
Keauna Whitfield converted a layup on the break and was fouled hard, with 53 seconds on the clock.
After an official review, the guests were awarded two shots and the ball.
Ajanae Thomas came off the bench and stepped to the free-throw line for Whitfield, converting both attempts. On the ensuing inbounds play, Guy drained the jumper and drew a foul and completed the old-fashion three-point play. She earned two more attempts on the next possession, nailing one and nudging the margin out to 55-49, completing a 28-18 advantage in the period.
Over the final 10 minutes, LETU kept the hosts at bay, not allowing the Ozarks to get any closer than three points.
Guy hit 7 of 11 from the floor, including 4 of 6 from three-point range and adding 3 of 5 from the charity stripe. She finished with 21 points, six assists, two steals and two rebounds.
Whitfield returned and tallied 14 points, three steals and two boards.

Allaira Jones, Thomas each chipped in with nine points, while
Kiara McElroy tallied eight.
The YellowJackets take on No. 4 UT Dallas in the opening game of the 2022 American Southwest Conference Women's Basketball Championship Tournament at noon Thursday, Feb. 24, at ETBU in Marshall, Texas.
