LETU Wraps Up ASC Weekend with Win at Concordia

AUSTIN, Texas -- A dominating fourth set from the LeTourneau volleyball team thwarted a comeback attempt from host Concordia as the YellowJackets snapped a two-match skid in a 3-1 win (25-21, 25-19, 14-25, 25-14) over the Tornados in ASC action on Saturday afternoon.

LeTourneau (6-3, 2-2 ASC) hit .432 in the fourth set with 16 kills and zero errors as it pulled away to seal the road victory.

The YellowJackets outscored Concordia 8-2 over a key stretch in the middle of the fourth game that gave the visitors an 18-12 lead. Hannah Payan had three consecutive kills to start the run and had four during the spurt. Allison Smith completed the set, and the win, with her seventh kill of the match.

Payan had a double-double of 12 kills and 13 digs to go along with four aces. Kaci Monk had nine kills, with Smith adding her seven, and Avery Mabery Morgan tallying six. Smith hit .538 in the contest and Monk registered a .333 hitting percentage. Reina Lawson totaled 17 assists, while Natalie Davenport had 15 with nine digs. Morgan Nix led the back row with 26 digs and Ty Shannon added nine.

Smith and Alexis Bowen Johnson each had three total blocks for the YellowJackets.

LeTourneau took the first two set of the match. A tight first set went the YellowJackets' way in a 25-21 win. LeTourneau scored five straight early in the game, highlighted by kills from Kaylyn Taylor and Johnson, to grab an 11-7 lead. LeTourneau would not trail again in the set, but never led by more than six before holding on for the win.

A similar story unfolded in the second set. LeTourneau used a five-point run to take a 14-9 lead after a Monk kill. The margin grew to seven (20-13) after a block from Smith before the YellowJackets scored the final three points to take a 2-0 match lead.

Concordia (5-4, 1-2 ASC) jumped out to an early lead in the third and would take the set to continue the match.

Sarah Ghormley and Kinsy Haschke each had 13 kills in the loss for the Tornados.
