Men's Soccer Draws with UMHB

LONGVIEW, Texas -- Opening conference play against a formidable foe, the LeTourneau men's soccer team played to a hard-fought, 0-0, draw against visiting Mary Hardin-Baylor on Thursday night at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.

It was the sixth shutout of the year for LeTourneau (4-2-3, 0-0-1 ASC) and extended the YellowJackets' unbeaten streak to seven in the process. The six clean sheets leads the ASC.

To get the shutout, and the one point in league standings, LeTourneau had to fend off a flurry of chances by Mary Hardin-Baylor (4-1-2, 0-0-1 ASC) in the second half. The visiting Cru took 18 shots over the final 45 minutes and held a 26-10 advantage in shots in the match.

Raul Torrez had a career-high nine saves at the net for LeTourneau as he collected his third complete shutout of the year. Six of those saves came in the final 45 mintues of play.

The YellowJackets had a few opportunities of their own. Nahum Serrano had a chance in the 47th minute, but his attempt just glanced off the crossbar and bounded away. Syed Zain put one on target late in the second half, while LeTourneau had two shots saved in the first half.

Mary Hardin-Baylor put together good looks in the final few minutes, including a header on frame from Patrick Roach that Torrez corraled, but could not put a mark on the scoreboard.

It was the third straight shutout for LeTourneau as the YellowJackets have surrendered just five goals in nine matches.

Emad Mohamed, Zain, and Russell Gray each had two shots for LeTourneau. Ethan Decaret had a match-high five attempts for UMHB. Cru keeper Dalton Lloyd made three saves in the tie.
