JACKSON, Miss. -- A tight match throughout saw the LeTourneau men's soccer team come up with a 0-0 draw at Belhaven in non-conference action on Thursday night in Jackson.
LeTourneau goes to 0-2-1 on the year, while Belhaven is now 1-0-2.
An evenly played match saw both teams with limited opportunities in the 90 minutes of action. Belhaven outshot the visiting Yellowjackets, 11-5, neither team established clear control throughout the match.
For a brief moment, it appeared LeTourneau had taken a 1-0 lead. In the 26th minute,
Syed Zain put one into the net off a quick pass from the top of the box, but the Yellowjackets were ruled offside to negate the score. Earlier in the first half,
Keaton Johnson had a look, but his shot was saved by Belhaven keeper Max Rudolph.
LeTourneau keeper
Raul Torrez collected his first shutout of the year as he stopped all five shots on target. Torrez was challenged in the second half with three quality looks from the host Blazers, but the junior made saves on each.
The Yellowjackets pulled together one last good look in the 83rd minute. A strong punt from Torrez quickly flipped the field and found Zain who a cross into the box and at the feet of
Chino Rojas, but Rojas' attempt went wide of the target.
Rudolph made one save for Belhaven.
Keaton Johnson,
Emad Mohamed,
Nahum Serrano,
Karson Johnson, and Rojas each took a shot for LeTourneau.
