LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau men's basketball gave up the lead late to Hardin-Simmons in a 90-86 loss on Saturday.
LeTourneau (8-10, 5-6 ASC) led for most of the game until Hardin-Simmons (11-6, 6-4 ASC) snatched it from them late in the second half with a pair of free throws from Steven Quinn.
The YellowJackets started strong earning a first-half lead that was 15-8 after a second-chance bucket from
John Argue with 10:39 left on the first-half clock. The Jackets extended the lead to 12 with a
Jackson Mayes turnaround jump shot making it 31-19 just before the last media timeout of the first half. LeTourneau took a 39-31 lead into halftime that was all too comfortable.
Hardin-Simmons came out in the second half and shortened the deficit to two, making the score 45-43 from a 3-pointer by Will Bartoszek. The Cowboys gained the lead a little later with a pair of foul shots making it 62-61 with 10:05 to play.
In crunch time, the YellowJackets retook the lead with Mayes 3-point jumper making it 78-77 Jackets ahead with just under four minutes remaining as it was then a back-and-forth affair. Quinn put the Cowboys up off a contested layup for the last time with just under a minute remaining. The Jackets fouled but could not find their way back over the top of the Cowboys dropping that one 90-86.
Deonte Jackson led the Jackets putting up 31 points and five assists to go with
Warren Richardson's 20 points and eight boards. Argue dropped 10 with eight rebounds alongside Mayes who scored 16 with a pair of assists.
