AUSTIN, Texas -- The LeTourneau volleyball team won for the fourth time in the last five matches as the YellowJackets downed Concordia Texas, 3-0 (25-17, 29-27, 25-17), on Friday evening in ASC play.
LeTourneau (6-9, 5-3 ASC) won its fourth match in the last five tries and completed a season sweep of Concordia (1-15, 1-7 ASC) along the way.
The YellowJackets had to battle back from a six-point deficit early in the first. An 8-1 scoring run, capped by back-to-back kills from
Yari Ortiz, gave the YellowJackets their first lead of the match at 10-9. LeTourneau never trailed again in the set and secured five of the final six rallies to claim a set one win at 25-17.
A similar tale unfolded in the second set. Concordia took a six-point lead at 17-11, only to see LeTourneau rally back. This time it took extra points as the teams traded the lead several times down the stretch. A kill from
Kaci Monk followed by a Tornado error gave the YellowJackets the 29-27 victory.
LeTourneau finished off the sweep in the third set. The YellowJackets totaled 15 kills and hit .344 in the set and pulled ahead 20-11 after a
Hannah Payan kill.
Amya McNeal capped the night with her match-clinching kill.
Reina Lawson had 31 assists and 11 digs, while
Morgan Nix tallied 24 digs and three aces. Monk also had three aces to go with a team-high 10 kills and seven digs.
Faith Keating and
Allison Smith each had six kills, with Smith tallying five blocks (two solo, three assisted) in the win.
Ortiz finished with five kills and three total blocks.
Rayna Pack and Presley Bunting each had eight kills for Concordia.
UP NEXT
LeTourneau travels to face Mary Hardin-Baylor (11 a.m.) and Luther (2:30 p.m.) on Saturday in Belton.
