BELTON, Texas -- The LeTourneau volleyball team went 1-1 on the day with a loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor (26-24, 25-21, 25-13) and a win over Luther (25-19, 19-25, 25-19, 25-11) on Saturday in Belton.
Allison Smith notched 4 blocks against the Cru to mark 300 on her career.
GAME TWO: LETU 3, Luther 1.
LeTourneau (7-9, 5-3 ASC) got started with a 10-5 lead in the first set. The YellowJackets benefited from kills by
Nora Lockhart and Megan Womack.
The Jackets carried the lead to a 25-19 set win with five aces in the set, each coming from a different player.
The second set saw 12 tied scores and six lead changes. The game saw an 18-18 tie before Luther went on a 7-1 run to close out the set.
The YellowJackets bounced right back in the third set as they jumped on a quick lead and did not turn back. After leading 8-4 they went on a 6-2 run to make it 14-6 as
Faith Keating marked a kill along with Lockhart's kill. The Jackets took the set 25-19 to retake the match lead 2-1.
LeTourneau maintained control of the match as they ran out to an 11-2 lead in the fourth set. The YellowJackets marked an attack percentage of .385 as they ran to a 25-11 set win to take the match.
Yari Ortiz marked 11 kills on the day, leading the Jackets.
Morgan Nix led the way in the dig category with 29 for the match.
Smith marked four blocks to match the first match and put her total to 304.
Lawson notched 40 assists with an ace and
Kaci Monk tallied nine kills.
GAME ONE: UMHB 3, LETU 0.
The YellowJackets played close for a couple of sets with Mary Hardin-Baylor (20-1, 9-1 ASC), but the Crusaders ended up taking the season series with a (26-24, 25-21, 25-13) win on Saturday morning.
The first set went point-for-point as
Yari Ortiz showed some faimliar power with six kills.
The Cru got to a set point at 24-19 before LeTourneau went on a 5-0 run with a pair of aces from
Kaci Monk and a pair of kills from Ortiz to make it 24-24. Mary Hardin-Baylor finished off the set with a couple of kills to take a 1-0 set lead.
The second set went back-and forth as there was 12 tied scores adn six lead changes.
After a tie at 11-11 Monk had a kill and an ace paired with an Ortiz kill to make a 14-12 lead before the Cru called a timeout.
LeTourneau then contiued to battle before eventually falling 25-21 in set two.
Mary Hardin-Baylor got out to a quick 19-8 lead in the third set. The YellowJackets did make a 4-0 run with a Kill from
Allison Smith, Ortiz, and Monk to make it 19-12. That momentum was not enoughto erase the deficit as the Cru took the match in the third set.
Ortiz led the YelloJackets in kills with 14 for the match and hitting an attack percentage of .333, she also marked three digs.
Monk had three aces and
Morgan Nix notched 22 digs. Smith had four total blocks (1-solo, 3-assists).
UP NEXT
LeTourneau will travel home to face Highway-80 rival East Texas Baptist on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
