Men's Soccer Hangs on to Draw UT Dallas 1-1

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau men's soccer team honored six seniors before LeTourneau tied UT Dallas 1-1 and secured a point in the conference standings on Saturday.

Beau Weber, Raul Torrez, Miguel Alvarez, Kolton Johnson, Zach Aitken, and Ethan Aiken were all honored before the match for their contributions to the program. 

Early in the second half, Caleb Nelson pushed forward and won the ball from a Comet defender. Nelson worked his way forward and drew a foul in the box to result in a penalty kick.

Emad Muhammed took full advantage of the opportunity as he buried it in the side netting to take a 1-0 advantage in the 49th minute. 

The action picked up again in the 78th minute when Axel Pangni was shown a red card for serious foul play. UT Dallas then took advantage of the man advantage with a goal from Julio De Los Reyes, Cole Morgan marked an assist.

The Comets fired off a couple of shots in the final ten minutes and Torrez marked a key save in the 87th minute before the final whistle blew at a 1-1 draw.

UT Dallas had three first-half shots that landed on frame, all of them saved by LeTourneau goalkeeper, Torrez.

LeTourneau had a shot off the foot of Muhammed that played off the woodwork on the left side. The YellowJackets were outshot in the first period 8-3, but the match was scoreless through 45 minutes.

The final box score showed the Comets with a 20-7 shot advantage, 8-1 on frame.

Torrez tallied seven saves and played all 90 minutes. Michael Hesse was in Net for the Comets and played all 90 minutes.

LeTourneau now sits with seven conference points, currently sitting fifth in the conference with one more conference game to play against Howard Payne.

LeTourneau will travel to Howard Payne on Thursday (7 p.m.).
