Lights Out: Women's Basketball Takes Down Southwestern in Home Opener

LONGVIEW, Texas -- Even with some lights off in Solheim Arena, the LeTourneau women's basketball team shot 50 percent in the fourth quarter and pulled away for a 58-45 victory over Southwestern in the home opener on Saturday afternoon.

Haylee Jordan recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds to go with four steals and three blocks in the win for LeTourneau (1-1). Bailey Broughton added 10 points and Sara Savage also scored 10 points with four rebounds.

The game was delayed in the third quarter for nearly 45 minutes as a section of lights went out on the LeTourneau side. The lights never came back on, but the coaches agreed to continue play.

After the delay, the YellowJackets went on a 10-1 run, which included a four-point play from Madelyn DeLosSantos, as LeTourneau opened up a 34-24 lead with 1:36 left in the period.

Southwestern (0-2) trimmed its deficit down to just two (45-43) with 4:44 remaining in the fourth quarter. LeTourneau had the answer, though, as baskets from Savage and Jordan extended the lead back to nine at 52-43 with 1:53 left to cap a 7-0 spurt. The YellowJackets then went 6-for-6 at the line down the stretch to seal the win.

LeTourneau made 19-of-29 from the foul line and shot 33.3 percent (17-for-51) from the field in the victory. The YellowJackets forced 30 turnovers from the visiting Pirates and converted those into 21 points.

Kylie Weeks chipped in eight points, while DeLosSantos had six points. Future Asevedo doled out four assists as LeTourneau had 11 assists on 17 made field goals.

Southwestern got 14 points from Ellie Ward. The Pirates connected on only 29.4 percent (15-of-51) from the field and were 2-of-15 from deep.
