Women's Basketball Suffers Overtime Loss

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau women's basketball team overcame a double-digit deficit in the first half and led by seven with five minute remaining, but fell in overtime to visiting Dallas, 70-68, on Wednesday afternoon inside Solheim Arena.

It was the second straight year that LeTourneau (2-4) and Dallas (4-2) played a two-point game. The YellowJackets defeated Dallas on the road by an 80-78 margin last November.

Kylie Weeks recorded a career-high 20 points and went 8-of-10 from the foul line while Haylee Jordan registered her fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds to go with three blocks. Ganae Gaines added 13 points and Mariana Espinosa scored 10 points with four assists.

LeTourneau trailed 31-20 with 1:53 left in the second quarter after Dallas rattled off 12 straight points earlier in the period to surge ahead.

Down nine (31-22) at the half, LeTourneau used a 12-2 run to begin the third quarter to grab a 34-33 lead on a pair of Jordan free throws with 5:38 left in the period. Jordan and Weeks each had four points during the stretch that gave the YellowJackets their first lead since early in the first quarter.

In the fourth, a Weeks 3-pointer at the 7:34 mark gave LeTourneau a 51-48 lead. That triple kicked off a 9-2 run as LeTourneau took its largest lead of the game at 57-50 after another Weeks bucket with 5:39 left.

Dallas would not go away and scored eight straight to take a 58-57 lead with 2:10 left. The teams traded free throws down the stretch and a Weeks freebie with 29 seconds left tied it at 60. LeTourneau stood tall defensively as Dallas had one more shot in regulation, but Caroline Croft's 3-pointer was off the mark as time expired.

In a game that saw 13 ties and 16 lead changes, the overtime session was much the same. Dallas struck first, but a Weeks 3-pointer gave LeTourneau a 65-63 lead with 3:20 remaining. Two more free throws from Weeks with just under a minute left put the YellowJackets up 68-66.

Dallas regained the lead at 70-68 and LeTourneau had a shot at the end, but Jordan's mid-range jumper was off target and a Weeks try at the buzzer was also missed.

LeTourneau went 18-of-26 from the foul line and shot 40 percent (24-of-60) from the field.

Dallas got 22 points from Adryan Alvarez and 13 points with 13 rebounds from Imani Hardin in the win. The Crusaders connected on 33.8 percent (22-of-65) for the game and were just 2-of-16 from deep. Dallas made 24-of-31 free throws.
