MARSHALL, Texas --
Caedmon Liebengood led four LeTourneau men's basketball players in double-figure scoring with his 21 points and the YellowJackets used a second-half surge to defeat rival East Texas Baptist, 77-70, on Thursday night in ASC play inside Ornelas Gym.
The win was the ninth in the last 11 meetings for LeTourneau (6-4, 3-2 ASC) over its Highway 80 counterpart ETBU (2-6, 2-3 ASC).
Liebengood had 21 points with four 3-pointers and seven rebounds to lead the way as LeTourneau's starting five accounted for 73 points on the night.
Deonte Jackson added 19 points with two assists and two steals, while
Christian Adams continued his stat-stuffing ways with 11 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
Walker Blaine hit two 3-pointers and finished with 15 points and five rebounds.
Jackson eclipsed 1,400 career points during the contest and sits on 1,416 points in his career.
LeTourneau looked strong early on as the YellowJackets opened an eight-point lead midway through the first half and held a 31-24 edge after a
Logan Brinkoeter layup with 4:13 left in the first half. ETBU finished the first half with a flurry as the Tigers used a 13-2 run over the final four minutes to take a 37-33 lead into halftime.
ETBU stretched the lead to six early in the second half, but LeTourneau came roaring back. Blaine scored seven straight points in a 7-0 spurt that gave LeTourneau a 49-48 lead with 13:08 left in the game.
The teams traded baskets over a stretch, but LeTourneau seized control with a 9-2 run that broke a 54-54 tie and a 3-pointer from Liebengood capped the run to give the YellowJackets a 63-56 lead with 7:01 to play.
ETBU snuck back within four on a couple of occasions, but the LeTourneau lead never dwindled under that as the YellowJackets held on for the key road win.
Free throws were a big reason why LeTourneau held on. The YellowJackets hit 12-of-14 at the line in the second half and finished the night 13-of-15. LeTourneau connected on 49.1 percent (28-of-57) from the field and made eight 3-pointers.
Jayden Williams scored a game-high 22 points for the Tigers, who also got 13 points and eight rebounds from Darry Moore. The Tigers shot 48.1 percent (26-of-54) for the game, but turned the ball over 13 times leading to 13 points for LeTourneau.
