AUSTIN, Texas -- Clutch baskets and free throws in the fourth quarter capped a second-half surge for the LeTourneau women's basketball team as the YellowJackets overcame a slow start to defeat Concordia Texas, 51-44, in ASC play on Saturday afternoon.
The victory snapped a six-game losing streak for LeTourneau (3-7, 1-3 ASC).Â
Bailey Broughton led LeTourneau with 11 points, including a key bucket with 32 seconds left in the fourth, while
Future Asevedo added 10 points.
Haylee Jordan just missed a double-double with her eight points, 13 rebounds, and seven blocks.
Both teams struggled over the first 20 minutes, but it was Concordia (2-7, 1-2 ASC) that took a 20-17 lead into the half.
LeTourneau trailed by five (23-18) early in the third before rattling off seven straight points, capped by a Jordan basket, to take a 25-23 with 7:55 left in the period. The YellowJackets shot 46.7 percent (7-of-15) in the period and grabbed a 33-32 lead on a

In the fourth, LeTourneau made just two field goals but went 13-of-14 at the free throw line to hold on for the win.
LeTourneau made those two made field goals count in the fourth. An Asevedo 3-pointer broke a 40-40 tie and gave the YellowJackets a three-point lead with 2:15 remaining. Up by one with under 40 seconds left, Broughton made a running jumper in the lane to extend the lead to 47-44 with 32 seconds left.
Ganae Gaines made four straight free throws down the stretch and the defense forced two Concordia turnovers to secure the road win.
Gaines had four points, seven rebounds, and three steals for the YellowJackets.
Kylie Weeks added seven rebounds and a game-high five assists as LeTourneau had 13 assists on its 15 made field goals. DeLosSantos hit two 3-pointers in the second quarter and finished with six points, while Espinosa grabbed five rebounds with four points.
LeTourneau held a 47-28 advantage on the boards and had 11 second-chance points.Â
Bailey Andrews led Concordia with 12 points. The Tornados were limited to 23.1 percent (12-of-52) from the field, but made eight 3-pointers.
UP NEXT
LeTourneau travels to Marshall on Thursday to face rival East Texas Baptist (5:30 p.m.).
