Senior Day Victory: LETU Women Take Down Sul Ross

LONGVIEW, Texas -- Behind a season-best shooting effort, the LeTourneau women's basketball team picked up its second straight victory with a 71-60 triumph over visiting Sul Ross State on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day inside Solheim Arena.

LeTourneau honored its senior class of AJ Thomas, Ty Moon, and Kyndall Hardeman before the game to honor the trio's contributions to the program during their careers.

The seniors then led the YellowJackets to the team's most impressive win of the season. Thomas had 13 points, eight rebounds, and four steals while Moon added nine points and four rebounds. Hardeman chipped in seven points with eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

LeTourneau (8-15, 4-12 ASC) shot a season-best percentage for the second straight game as the YellowJackets connected on 54.5 percent (24-of-44) from the field and went 20-of-28 at the foul line.

LeTourneau trailed 15-14 at the end of the first quarter and the teams went back-and-forth in the second. LeTourneau tied the score at 32 apiece heading into halftime after Thomas was fouled attempting a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer. Thomas drained all three free throws to even the score.

The momentum of the game switched in the third period. LeTourneau opened the third quarter with a 16-4 run, spanning over five minutes, to grab a 48-36 lead. Bailey Broughton hit a 3-pointer, part of her game-high 21 points, to cap the stretch and put the YellowJackets up by 12 with 4:43 left. LeTourneau led by 13 twice later in the third, its biggest lead of the game.

Sul Ross (14-10, 10-7 ASC) chipped away and got within four in the fourth quarter. Moon and Kylie Weeks answered with baskets on consecutive possessions to stretch the margin back to eight (66-58) with 5:33 remaining.  Broughton finished with 21 points and added four rebounds in the win. Haylee Jordan totaled a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds, while Madelyn DeLosSantos had seven points.

Sul Ross got 10 points and 12 steals from Brianna Martin. The Lobos were held to just 29.1 percent (25-of-86) from the field and 2-of-14 from beyond the 3-ppoint line.
