RICHARDSON, Texas -- The LeTourneau women's basketball team hung with a defensive-minded UT Dallas squad through the first half, but the visiting YellowJackets could not keep pace in a 67-37 loss on Thursday night in Richardson.
Ty Moon led LeTourneau (8-16, 4-13 ASC) with 14 points, tying a career-high, to go with three rebounds and a steal.
AJ Thomas totaled nine points and nine rebounds, while
Bailey Broughton had eight points and
Haylee Jordan collected eight rebounds with three blocks.
LeTourneau led 11-8 at the end of the first quarter after limiting UT Dallas to only 27.3 percent shooting in the first 10 minutes. Thomas drained a jumper with 18 seconds left in the period to give the YellowJackets the three-point edge heading into the second.
Kyndall Hardeman extended the YellowJackets' lead to 13-8 on the first possession of the second with her jumper. LeTourneau still held a three-point lead (16-13) after a
Kylie Weeks 3-pointer with 8:02 left in the second.
UT Dallas (15-9, 11-6 ASC) regrouped from there and finished the half on a 13-4 run to gain a 26-20 lead at the break. The lead for the Comets stretched into double-figures early in the third and LeTourneau would not be able to make a run against the top defensive team in the ASC.
Jordan Maxwell led UT Dallas with 11 points. The Comets shot just 37.3 percent (25-of-67) from the field, but made seven 3-pointers.
LeTourneau connected on 30.4 percent (14-of-46) for the game.
