Men's Soccer Shuts Out Schreiner, 2-0

LONGVIEW, Texas-- A couple of second-half goals give the LeTourneau men's soccer team a 2-0 win in the last nonconference matchup with Schreiner at home on Friday afternoon.

LeTourneau (3-3-1) notched the second team shutout of the season, the first came against Millsaps in a 2-0 win at home.

A lot of back-and-forth play did not mark much until the 34th minute when Garrett Thom found himself on a breakaway opportunity and put a shot on frame to be saved by Marco Ramos.

The YellowJackets found a couple more opportunities in the first half with three shots on frame to match the Mountaineers. Schreiner did outshoot LeTourneau 7-6 in the first half, but the match remained scoreless.

The second 45' started with a pair of early corner kicks for the visitors in the 46th minute. The Mountaineers failed to convert both of them.

The YellowJackets then turned the tide when Bridger Roberdeau worked a defender in to make a quick strike into the 6-yard box for Caleb Nelson to use his head to flick it into the net. The goal marked Nelson's third of the season.

LeTourneau rode the momentum with a 1-0 lead and worked a couple more chances that could not be converted as Nate Bransford took a shot that was blocked away.

In the 86th minute, the YellowJackets iced the game as Thom sent a right-footed shot past Ramos. Grayson Crawford was credited with the assist as the Jackets carried a 2-0 lead. Thom's third of the season.

LeTourneau ended up outshooting Schreiner 22-12 with 8-7 on frame.

Raul Torrez collected seven saves as he played in the net for the YellowJackets. Torrez tallied his second shutout of the year. Ramos played all 90 minutes in goal for the Mountaineers and made six saves.
