SHERMAN, Texas --
Caleb Bransford and
Caleb Nelson collected their first collegiate goals, but the LeTourneau men's soccer team could not slow down host Austin College in a 5-2 loss on Monday night in Sherman.
Austin College (2-0) got out to a 2-0 lead quickly and LeTourneau (1-1) was unable to overcome the early deficit.
The host Roos scored twice within the first four minutes of play. Louis Catchpole scored the first of his three goals on the night in the third minute as he collected a short pass into the box and scored to make it 1-0. In the fourth minute, Pierce Wear notched the first of his two goals in the opening half with a strike from the left side of the box to extend the Roos' lead to 2-0.
LeTourneau cut the deficit in half in the 21st minute. Off a set piece from
Graysen Crawford, Bransford knocked in the ball from inside the six-yard box and past Austin College keeper Everardo Garza to get the YellowJackets on the board.
Wear added his second tally of the first half in the 37th minute as Austin College took a 3-1 lead into the half.
The margin extended to 4-1 in the 52nd minute with Catchpole's second goal of the night.
In the 66th minute, it was Nelson's turn to find the net. On a counter,
Axel Pangni ended up finding Nelson in the box and the left-footed freshman hit the ball off the right post and it bounded into the net for the goal.
The assist was Pangni's second of the season.
But that was not enough on this night as Catchpole claimed his hat trick with a goal in the 90th minute to seal the match.
Austin College held a 19-10 edge in total shots and had nine on frame.
Raul Torrez and
Kolton Johnson combined at the net for four saves.
