LONGVIEW, Texas -- A flurry of chances late, including a goal, was not enough for the LeTourneau men's soccer team to overcome a two-goal deficit in a 2-1 loss to Belhaven on Thursday night at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.
The loss was the second straight for LeTourneau (1-2).
Trailing 2-0 with 15 minutes left in the match, the YellowJackets increased the pressure and created more opportunities. That work paid off in the 77th minute when
Axel Pangni found the back of the net to get LeTourneau within 2-1. Pangni possessed the ball in the attacking zone and scored from the top of the box past Belhaven keeper Max Rudolph.
The goal was Pangni's second of the season.
LeTourneau would put two more chances on frame later, but both
Garrett Thom's and
Caleb Nelson's attempts were gathered in by Rudolph as the visiting Blazers held on for the win.
After a scoreless first half, Belhaven (2-0) seized control of the match with two scores in the first 16 minutes of the second half.
On a free kick, Lex Rogers chipped a ball into the box and Julian Carreira headed the ball towards the net where Koby Rhone knocked it in for the first goal in the 47th minute. In the 62nd minute, the Blazers struck again with Courtland Williams finding Wesley Bloodworth in the box who finished from short range to extend the margin to 2-0.
Belhaven outshot the YellowJackets 17-8 in the contest, while Thom had three of LeTourneau's chances.Â
Kolton Johnson made seven saves at the net for LeTourneau. Rudolph made four for the Blazers.
