Men's Hoops Can't Overcome Tough Start

RICHARDSON, Texas -- The LeTourneau men's basketball team trimmed a 28-point deficit to seven in the second half, but could not overcome UT Dallas in a 103-81 loss on the road in ASC action on Saturday afternoon.

The loss snapped a four-game win streak for LeTourneau (10-6, 5-3 ASC). The YellowJackets' 81 points did extend a stretch of five consecutive games of 80-plus points.

Deonte Jackson recorded his 10th career 30-point game as he scored 30 points on 11-of-22 shooting with six rebounds, three assists, and three steals in the loss. Caedmon Liebengood had 12 points and four rebounds while Jackson Mayes and Christian Adams had 10 points apiece.

UT Dallas (9-6, 5-2 ASC) ran out to a 41-13 lead in the first half as Austin Page totaled 20 points in the opening frame. LeTourneau chipped away at the margin over the final seven minutes of the half and outscored the Comets 29-12 to get within 53-42 at the break.

Back-to-back buckets from Jackson early in the second half brought the YellowJackets to within 58-51 with 16 minutes left. A UT Dallas triple brought the margin back to double-figures and LeTourneau got it under 10 just one more time the rest of the way as the Comets pulled away for the win.

LeTourneau shot 47.8 percent (32-of-67) for the game with six 3-pointers. Adams added five assists to lead LeTourneau's 19 on the day.

UT Dallas controlled the paint early on and accumulated 44 points from close range and 18 second-chance points. Page finished 28 points and eight rebounds to lead five Comets in double-digit scoring.

The Comets finished shooting 58.6 percent (34-of-58) from the field with 10 triples and a 25-of-31 effort at the foul line.
