Women's Hoops Downed at Nationally-Ranked HSU; Jordan Breaks Program Record

ABILENE, Texas -- Haylee Jordan became the single-season record holder for blocks, but the LeTourneau women's basketball team fell at nationally-ranked Hardin-Simmons, 79-56, on Saturday in Abilene.

Jordan totaled nine blocks in the game, the second-most in a game in program history behind her 10 at Arlington Baptist earlier this season, and broke the single-season YellowJacket record in the process. Her 67 blocks on the year tops the previous record of 65 by De'Shante Thomas in 2011-12.

Jordan leads the ASC in blocks and blocks per game (3.7), while ranking in the top 10 nationally in both categories. Jordan and Bailey Broughton each had 15 points in the loss, while Jordan added nine rebounds and nine blocks. Allie Buchanan added 10 rebounds and four points and Ganae Gaines dished out four assists.

LeTourneau (5-13, 2-8 ASC) trailed 9-0 midway through the first quarter, but hung tough with Hardin-Simmons (15-3, 8-2 ASC). The host Cowgirls are ranked No. 19 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 and 15th in this week's WBCA poll.

Trailing 44-23 at the half, LeTourneau got within 62-47 after a Madelyn DeLosSantos free throw with 7:36 left in the fourth. HSU added to its lead down the stretch.

Leading the ASC in scoring offense at 86.0 points per game, HSU was limited by the LeTourneau defense. The YellowJackets set a program record for blocks in a game with 16, led by Jordan's nine, as Buchanan and Lacie Williams each had two. Broughton, LaTerra Satcher, and Makenna Kaunitz added one apiece to the record total.

Hardin-Simmons connected on 32.9 percent (26-of-79) from the field, but made 11 3-pointers. Samantha Tatum had a game-high 18 points with four 3-pointers.

DeLosSantos and Gaines had five points each for LeTourneau. The YellowJackets made 37.3 percent (22-of-59) for the game.
