Women's Hoops Holds off Howard Payne, 58-50

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau women's basketball team never trailed and held off a fourth-quarter rally from visiting Howard Payne for a 58-50 ASC victory on Thursday night inside Solheim Arena.

It was the sixth straight win for LeTourneau (5-8, 2-4 ASC) over Howard Payne (6-8, 2-5 ASC).

Kylie Weeks had 17 points, five rebounds, and three steals as she went 11-for-12 at the free throw line to help seal the victory. Haylee Jordan battled foul trouble in the first half, but had a strong final two quarters as she tallied seven points, 15 rebounds, and two blocks. Madelyn DeLosSantos had a career-high 10 points with seven rebounds, while Sara Savage added five points, eight rebounds, and three assists.

LeTourneau led for all but 68 seconds of the contest and never trailed.

The YellowJackets used a 7-0 run to finish the second period and took a 28-16 lead into the half after a DeLosSantos 3-pointer with 22 seconds left.

The lead stretched to 14 on Jordan's opening bucket in the third period, the largest lead LeTourneau held on the night. The YellowJackets matched the 14-point advantage on a DeLosSantos basket late in the third to carry a 40-26 lead into the fourth.

Howard Payne sliced the margin to four with 4:17 left in the game, but LeTourneau answered the clutch free throws over the final minutes to hold off the surge. The YellowJackets made 13-of-18 at the line in the fourth and finished the night 24-of-30.

The YellowJackets limited Howard Payne to only 24.7 percent (19-of-77) from the field and 6-of-25 from 3-point land. LeTourneau also got 19 points off the bench, led by four points each from Makenzie Covey, Makenna Kaunitz, and Ganae Gaines. LaTerra Satcher added four rebounds and an assist off the bench.

LeTourneau held a 56-38 rebounding edge as Jordan pulled down a game-high 15.

Howard Payne got 17 points from Asia Mitchell and 10 from Anna Beamesderfer in the loss.
