MARSHALL, Texas -- LeTourneau volleyball fell to #9 East Texas Baptist, 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-15), at the Ornelas Gymnasium on Friday evening.
LeTourneau falls to 9-11 (2-3 ASC) while ETBU improves to 17-1 (5-0 ASC).
Kylee Marksberry led the way in kills with nine, while
Reina Lawson added a team-high 10 assists and
Allison Smith notched three service aces. Defensively,
Morgan Nix collected 17 digs and
Yari Ortiz contributed three blocks.Â
The YellowJackets responded well to a raucous home crowd in the first set, withstanding a couple of early runs by the Tigers and closing the deficit to one, 13-12, after an
Allison Smith kill. ETBU followed with a 12-1 run, though, eventually closing the set by 25-18 score.
The second set was a thriller, commonplace between these rivals. Late in the set, LeTourneau gained an upper hand after a
Yari Ortiz kill and an
Allison Smith ace put the YellowJackets in front, 21-20. Nevertheless, the Tigers went on a 5-2 run and took the second set, 25-23, to go up two sets to none.
The third set was close early as well, with a Marksberry kill making the score 10-10. Despite that, the Tigers used an ensuing 7-0 run to gain momentum to take command and win the set, 25-15, and the match, three sets to none.
For ETBU, Graycee Mosley had 20 kills and McKenzie Mansell added 22 assists, while Callie Humphrey collected 17 digs.

LeTourneau hits the road again next week, traveling to Richardson, Texas to face UT Dallas next Friday at 5 p.m.
