RICHARDSON, Texas -- Playing its first match in a week, the LeTourneau volleyball team fell to UT Dallas, 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-17), on Friday night at the UTD Activity Center.
In what was likely the final meeting between the two programs who have been playing since 2004, UT Dallas (7-6) rallied past LeTourneau (9-12) in the first set and then controlled the final two frames to earn the win.
Yari Ortiz had seven kills, while
Kaci Monk and
Kylee Marksberry had five apiece for LeTourneau.
Reina Lawson totaled 16 assists and
Allison Smith added four kills and four blocks.
Morgan Nix led all players with 20 digs.
A back-and-forth first set saw LeTourneau gain a 24-21 with four straight points.
Dylan Presley's kill got the stretch started and a Monk kill gave the YellowJackets a set-point chance at 24-21.
Presley finished the match with a season-high four kills.
UT Dallas would not go away. The Comets answered by scoring the final five points of the frame to grab a 26-24 win.
The second and third sets belonged to UT Dallas as the Comets opened up early leads and pulled away in both to collect the sweep and the season sweep.
Alina Strickler had 10 kills with eight digs for UT Dallas, while Sophia Bailey had nine kills. Sydney Sabin had 18 assists and Mari Hernandez totaled 19 digs.
