BROWNWOOD, Texas -- A wild second half saw both teams find the back of the net and the LeTourneau men's soccer team settled for a 1-1 draw at Howard Payne in ASC action on Thursday night at Citizens National Bank Field.
It was the fifth tie of the season for LeTourneau (4-4-5, 1-1-3 ASC).
LeTourneau took command of the match early in the second half.
Diego Enriquez scored a free kick from the left side of the box to put the visiting YellowJackets ahead 1-0 in the 52nd minute.
The goal was the first of the season for Enriquez and the second of his career.
LeTourneau outshot Howard Payne, 10-2, in the second half but the hosts found the back of the net in the 67th minute. Zachary Hallman deposited his shot from inside the box after a pair of passes from Deavan Connelly and Phrabvir Singh to even the score.
LeTourneau had its chances late in the match.
Jonas Coyle had a look in the 79th minute that went wide of the target and had another in the 88th minute saved by Howard Payne keeper Dane Tinkis.
Chino Rojas (79') and
Garrett Thom (89') also had their late attempts handled by the keeper.
In the waning seconds, LeTourneau earned a corner kick but Howard Payne's Gregory Tejeda did not leave space for the YellowJackets'
Caleb Nelson to take the kick. After the horn sounded, Tejeda was red carded and LeTourneau was given another chance with just two seconds. Nelson's second corner found the head of
Emad Mohamed on the back post, but could not be directed towards the net.
Howard Payne (0-10-4, 0-4-1 ASC) was issued five yellow cards and Tejeda's red card in the match.
LeTourneau had a 17-8 advantage in total shots, led by four from Enriquez.Â
Edson Camara Martinez made one save in his 90 minutes at the net for LeTourneau, while Tinkis made seven.
It was the first draw between the two teams since Oct. 19, 2012.
