BELTON, Texas -- The LeTourneau volleyball team rallied for a second set victory, but host Mary Hardin-Baylor held off the YellowJackets over the final two sets for a 3-1 (25-17, 19-25, 25-17, 25-21) victory on Saturday afternoon in Belton.
LeTourneau (9-13, 2-4 ASC) got 12 kills, three blocks, and five digs from
Kaci Monk while
Logan Lear added seven kills and
Yari Ortiz had six. Ortiz also tallied eight digs.
Reina Lawson recorded 19 assists with six digs and
Grace Talkington had 14 assists and six digs.
Morgan Nix added 20 digs and
Ashlyn Walther had five total blocks (one solo, four assisted).
LeTourneau dropped the opening set, but rallied back in the second to even the match. The YellowJackets had a match-high 15 kills in the frame and took the lead for good with a five-point run midway through the set.
Allison Smith had two kills during the key run as the YellowJackets grabbed a 17-12 lead.
Smith finished the match with six kills and three blocks.
UMHB (19-5, 4-4 ASC) trimmed the deficit to 22-19, but kills from Lear and Monk gave LeTourneau the final three points and the set win.
The host Crusaders sprinted out to a 5-1 lead in the third set and never trailed to take a 2-1 match lead. In the fourth, an Ortiz kill tied the score at 16, but four straight from the home side gave UMHB the lead for good.
Baylee Mobley had 11 kills with 12 digs for UMHB, while Caiden Lasala had a match-high 22 digs.Â
