Women's Basketball Falls in Exhibition Game

COMMERCE, Texas -- LeTourneau women's basketball fell to East Texas A&M in a Tuesday evening exhibition game, 104-33.

This game did not count towards LeTourneau's overall record, but East Texas A&M improved to 2-1 with the victory.

Mariana Espinosa led the way in scoring with seven points, with Sara Savage and LaQuesha Clark adding five apiece. Four players tied for the team lead in rebounds: Brooklyn Iman, Makenzie Covey, Caitlyn Stanley, and Espinosa snagged four boards apiece. LeTourneau also shot an exemplary 90 percent from the free throw line as a team in this one.

Espinosa got the scoring started for the YellowJackets with her first quarter layup, and then Savage added to that by drawing a shooting foul and drilling both free throws. Later, Iman got herself in the stat sheet with 2:46 remaining in the quarter, finding herself in perfect position in the lane and converting the layup.

Covey, who played a solid game on both ends of the floor, continued the excellence at the charity stripe with two free throws in the second quarter. Clark followed with a strong offensive rebound and putback later in the quarter.

As the third period was nearing a close, Stanley added two more free throws to keep up the stellar percentage at the line.

Kylie Weeks found her stroke from distance in the fourth quarter, canning a three from the corner. Covey then notched her first field goal with a sweet jumper from the baseline later in the period. Future Asevedo hit her first field goal in this quarter as well, drilling a shot from inside the painted area.

Savage then added a three and Iman tallied two more free throws to complete the scoring.

The Lions saw Hannah Humphrey pace them in scoring with 21, while Nyaluak Dak snatched eight boards and Nykesha Sanders and Nina Horvath dished out seven assists each.
