LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau women's basketball team played their first home game of the season on Thursday evening, falling to Centenary, 81-74.
The YellowJackets fall to 0-2, while the Centenary Ladies move to 1-1.
Four LeTourneau players got in double figures in scoring, with
Future Asevedo leading the way with 18 points on 4-10 from 3-point territory. She was followed closely by
LaTerra Satcher (16 pts),
Mariana Espinosa (15 pts), and
Sara Savage (14 pts). Espinosa also snatched a team-high nine boards, with Savage and
Kylie Weeks pacing in assists with four apiece.
Defensively, Savage swatted away two shots and Weeks stole the ball twice.
The YellowJackets had an early first-quarter lead after an Asevedo three and a Satcher mid-range jumper, and then came back from down six late in the quarter to tie it, thanks to
LaQuesha Clark and Satcher's game-tying layups.
LeTourneau led by as many as four in the second quarter after Asevedo went on a 5-point scoring spree, however, Centenary came back to take a nine-point lead at the half, 43-34.
The YellowJackets pulled to within six early in the third quarter after another Asevedo 3-pointer, but the Ladies kept pace to keep the lead at the end of the third.
In the fourth quarter, LeTourneau nearly pulled off the comeback, with two late 3-pointers by Savage giving the YellowJackets a chance, but it was not quite enough.
For the Ladies, Naveah Rivera tallied 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Shyanne Phillips also had a double-double, with 19 points and 15 rebounds.
