LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau women's basketball could not overcome Texas Lutheran on Saturday afternoon, as they fell by a final score of 86-61.
LeTourneau falls to 0-3, while Texas Lutheran moves to 2-1.
Sara Savage dropped 12 points, marking her second consecutive game in double figures.
Kylie Weeks joined her in double-figure scoring with 11 points.
Brooklyn Iman also had a season-high nine points, seven of which came in the fourth quarter. Savage also led in rebounds with six, blocks with two, and steals with two.
Caitlyn Stanley added five boards in seven minutes, and
LaQuesha Clark dished out a team-high five assists.
After the Bulldogs ran out to an early 6-0 lead in the first quarter, the YellowJackets answered, pulling to within one, 12-11. Weeks (6) and Savage (5), scored all 11 points for LeTourneau in this stretch. Savage also hit a quarter-ending 3-pointer, making it 24-21 Bulldogs at the end of the first.
The second quarter was also hotly contested, with the game vacillating between four and eight point deficits most of the way. The YellowJackets initially closed the gap to four with a 3-pointer from
Future Asevedo, and then later closed it back to four with a
Mariana Espinosa jumper. Savage made it a four-point game at the half with a putback layup to make it 38-34 at the break.
Unfortunately, the Bulldogs came out firing in the second half, outscoring LeTourneau 48-27 the rest of the way to cruise to victory.
Sarahi Jones led Texas Lutheran in scoring with 14 points, Kailee Murkey and Angelino Sotelo led in rebounds with six, and Sotelo also notched six assists.
