Multiple Milestones Met as Men's Hoops Maintains Marvelousness

LONGVIEW, Texas -- Deonte Jackson, Branson Lynn, and Logan Brinkoeter hit career milestones as LeTourneau (8-2) defeated Dallas (5-3), 99-92, on Wednesday evening at Solheim Arena.

Jackson scored a game-high 36 points in the victory, which helped him surpass 1,900 career points and move him into fourth in program history in points scored. It was also his 11th career 30-plus point output.

Lynn scored a career-high 21 points, his first career 20-point game, hitting 4-of-7 3-pointers on the night. Brinkoeter tied his career-best scoring mark with 15 points, going 7-of-9 from the field. Walker Blaine also hit double-figures in scoring with 12.

Defensively, Brinkoeter snatched six rebounds and Jackson stole the ball six times, giving him 13 steals in the last two games.

The YellowJackets jumped out to an early 8-2 first-half lead behind Blaine and Jackson scoring four apiece. Back-to-back threes from Connor Miller extended the lead to eight later in the half.

Dallas stormed back to take a one-point lead, 21-20, and then the scoring fireworks began. 52 points were scored in the remaining 9:45 of the half, with both teams shooting the ball at impressive clips. The half ended in the Crusaders' favor, 48-45.

LeTourneau came out of the gates on fire in the second half, going on a 12-2 run to re-take a seven-point advantage. Blaine and Brinkoeter had another four points each in this stretch.

Dallas would not go away, however, cutting the lead down to two on a couple of occasions. After the YellowJackets extended the lead back to seven with 9:21 to go, the Crusaders hit a jumper to close it back to five.

Then, it was Lynn time.

Lynn would knock down three 3-pointers in a span of 1:18, pushing the YellowJackets' lead to 12. The Lynn-sanity continued, as he knocked down another three consecutive jumpers, one of which was an and-one, to keep the lead at 13.

That would be all that LeTourneau needed, as they held off the Crusader offense the rest of the game, hitting multiple free throws to end the affair.

The YellowJackets' current record of 8-2 ties the best 10-game stretch to open a season in program history in the NCAA era, marking the fourth time the YellowJackets have achieved it in the last 17 seasons.

The 61.2 percent team field goal percentage also set a season-high, with LeTourneau going 41-of-67 from the floor and 9-of-19 from 3-point land.

For Dallas, Johny Olmstead scored 36 points while Thomas Fleming added 23. TJ Williams led in boards with seven, and Aaron Pizana added two blocks.
