Two Double-Doubles Drive Women's Hoops to Home Triumph

LONGVIEW, Texas -- LaTerra Satcher and Mariana Espinosa recorded double-doubles and the defense forced 23 turnovers as LeTourneau (3-7) triumphed over Arlington Baptist (0-4), 71-53.

Satcher scored a game-high 15 points and grabbed 10 boards in just 20 minutes of play, which was her second career double-double. Espinosa had 14 points and 10 rebounds of her own, which was a career-best rebound mark and her first career double-double. Future Asevedo added five assists as well on offense.

The defense played a stellar game, forcing 23 turnovers, 18 of which were steals. The 18 steals were a team-high for the season. Kylie Weeks and Satcher led that defensive charge, snatching three steals each.

The YellowJackets came out firing in the first quarter, opening the game on a 9-0 run. Satcher had four points and Weeks added five in this stretch, getting the game off to a great start.

LeTourneau maintained the lead throughout the quarter, holding a 24-14 lead as the quarter ended. A 3-pointer from Alex Morales and a Makenzie Covey buzzer-beater ended the quarter on a high note.

The second quarter was more of the same, as the YellowJackets added to their lead. Satcher added another four points in the quarter, while Caitlyn Stanley, Savannah Scruggs, and Sallie Moser added baskets to help extend the advantage.

The half closed with LeTourneau up by 15, 42-27.

The YellowJackets got the lead as high as 18 points in the third quarter after an Espinosa triple, and held onto the double-digit lead from that point on, closing the quarter with an 11-point lead.

Arlington Baptist was able to close the gap to nine early in the fourth, forcing LeTourneau to regroup and come up with a response.

Respond, they did.

Four straight points by Espinosa got the lead back to 13, and then another Espinosa three and an Asevedo layup pushed the lead to 16 with 5:26 to play.

It was all business from there, as Brooklyn Iman, Sara Savage and Moser hit some late shots to seal the deal.

The Patriots were led by Sophia Cortez, who had 13 points and nine rebounds, while Kaylee Bennett added 10 points.
