LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau women's hoops used a 27-point third quarter and some
Gracie Hunter magic to pilot them to a 69-55 win over Austin College at Solheim Arena on Monday evening.
LeTourneau improves to 4-7, while Austin College falls to 4-3.
Hunter was simply stellar in the game, dropping a career-high (and game-high) 19 points off the bench. Hunter went 7-of-12 from the field and 4-of-8 from 3-point range, while also adding two blocks and a steal.
Future Asevedo (12) and
Mariana Espinosa (11) helped in the scoring department, while
Brooklyn Iman also had an excellent game, with nine points and a career-high nine rebounds.
Defensively,
LaTerra Satcher grabbed 10 rebounds, her second game in a row with double-digit rebounds, and
Sara Savage stole the ball a career-high five times.
The YellowJackets opened the scoring in the first quarter, getting an Asevedo 3-pointer and a Satcher midrange jumper to go up 5-0. Later, a
Makenzie Covey jumper and another Asevedo triple extended the lead to six, 14-8. The quarter ended with LeTourneau in front, 17-13, with
Sallie Moser hitting a key late layup.
A low-scoring second quarter saw the 'Roos go on an 8-0 run and take the lead back, 21-17, with under five minutes remaining in the quarter. With the YellowJackets trailing, they needed a momentum boost to head into the half on a high note.
Hunter delivered.
The freshman from Krum, Texas went on a tear, scoring seven points in the final 3:05 of the quarter, including a 3-pointer as the clock expired to put LeTourneau ahead at half, 27-25.
She didn't stop there.
After a 12-0 run by the YellowJackets, Hunter was called to rejoin the battle. She knocked down another two 3-pointers and hit a layup to help extend the lead to 19, getting LeTourneau one step closer to a win.
The fourth quarter saw the YellowJackets take care of business, never letting the 'Roos gain any sort of foothold. Savage was key defensively in this quarter, getting two steals and two blocks to help LeTourneau put it away.
Austin College had Lexi Martin and Avory Miller score 17 apiece, while Miller grabbed 10 rebounds and Trinity Williams dished out six assists.
