MY LETU STORY: Christian Adams

NOTE: This is part of a series on letuathletics.com with feature stories written by senior student-athletes, or in their final year, about their time at LeTourneau and the impact it has made on them.

My name is Christian Adams, and I am a senior from Nacogdoches, Texas. I have been a two-year captain for the men’s basketball team here at LeTourneau University.

My time at LeTourneau University has been amazing. Athletically, I have been injury free and felt that I am constantly improving with the help of my coaches and teammates. I have had the opportunity to build close relationships and get to know so many people across campus. My teammates have been so supportive, and they have helped me grow and continue to encourage me.

Within our team we have a motto of brotherhood which represents the way we interact with each other. This means that we care about each other and play for our brothers. This motto is one that we try to live by and we want it to show in the way we play ball.

My coaches have been one of my biggest blessings. My previous coaches did not support or encourage me and so coming to LETU made me feel wanted and gave me the opportunity to earn playing time.

When I came for my visit, I left knowing that this is where I was called to be. Coach [James] Wallace and Coach J [Joel Wallace] have pushed me and challenged me to pursue excellence and to set big goals. Without their support, I am not sure where I would be.

I have had the opportunity to work on campus for two years in student-life and it has let me learn how the university works. Miss Wanda [Davis] has consistently checked in on me and cared about me. I also had the chance to take prospective students on tours this past summer and it was such an cool experience to be able to tell students about how amazing the school is and how much I have enjoyed it.

As a kinesiology major, I have had the opportunity to learn from my professors but, more importantly, I feel like my professors cared about me as a person. While my courses were difficult, they prepared me for life after college. I can honestly say that I enjoyed going to class and spending time with my professors.

If I were to describe LETU in one word I would say family.

When you walk down the halls it does not feel distant between athlete or non-athletes, majors, or grade level. Students come out and support our team and there is nothing better than stepping out on the court and seeing the Blue Crew going wild! We also have a cool bond between teams which is great. The baseball teams always fills the stands during our games and it does so much to the atmosphere of Solheim Arena.

Overall, one of the most important things that I have learned since I came to LeTourneau University is the importance of reaching out and coming out of your shell. Connections are so important and when you are willing to just talk to people and make those connections and strengthen those relationship it can take you so far in life.

As I come to the end of my time here at LETU, I want to thank my coaches, Dr. Jordan Schools, Joey Schools, Dr. Wayne Jacobs, Miss Wanda, Miss Carol Wellman, Coach Lucas Mason, Coach Robin Harriss, and Dr. Tim Sceggel for supporting me and encouraging me throughout my time here. I also want to thank my teammates for always being there for me.

To LeTourneau University, thank you for making me feel like family. Y’all stay up!
