LONGVIEW, Texas -- A sizzling first quarter for the LeTourneau women's basketball team was not enough to overcome a strong UT Dallas squad in a 77-45 loss in ASC action on Thursday night inside Solheim Arena.
LeTourneau shot 50 percent (8-of-16) in the first quarter and raced out to a 20-14 lead at the end of the period.
Bailey Broughton led LeTourneau (5-19, 2-13 ASC) with 14 points, marking the 10th time in the last 11 games she has registered double-digit points.
Allie Buchanan had eight points, six rebounds, and two assists while
Ganae Gaines had six points and five rebounds.
Mariana Espinosa tallied five points, six rebounds, and three assists.
A Buchanan bucket followed by a Broughton 3-pointer gave LeTourneau a 14-10 lead with 5:12 left in the first quarter. Broughton extended the margin to six with another triple at the end of the period and hit three 3-pointers in the quarter.
The YellowJackets entered the second with a 20-14 lead, but UT Dallas (19-5, 11-4 ASC) stormed back and never allowed LeTourneau to get back in the game. The visiting Comets went 9-of-16 from the field in the second quarter with five 3-pointers to build a 13-point lead (38-25) at the half.Â
LeTourneau hit 40 percent (6-of-15) from deep and went 5-for-6 at the free throw line in the loss.
UT Dallas was led by 25 points from Alex Bowman and 16 from Amanda Crowninshield. The Comets connected on 44.3 percent (31-of-70) for the game with six 3-pointers.
