15 Earn ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Honors

DALLAS -- Fifteen LeTourneau student-athletes garnered ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes honors as the conference unveiled the 2023-24 awards on Thursday.

The Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team recognizes student-athletes who attain a higher level of academic achievement (a 3.20 grade-point average or better) while competing as a starter or important reserve on their team. From the DSA Team members in each conference sport, the sports information directors select the Distinguished Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Kaiden Schneider (men's golf) earned Distinguished Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors for his sport.

Dylan Cortes (baseball), Caedmon Liebengood (men's basketball), Haylee Jordan (women's basketball), David Dugan (men's cross country), Hope Greenwald (women's cross country), Kaiden Schneider (men's golf), Hannah Newell (women's golf), Bridger Roberdeau (men's soccer), Drew Lessert (women's soccer), Kylie Grisham (softball), Zach Farris (men's tennis), Megan LeBlanc (women's tennis), Hudson McGuire (men's track and field), Haily Bass (women's track and field), and Allison Smith (volleyball) all earned a spot on Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Teams for their respective sport.

Schneider, a sophomore from Bullard, Texas, becomes the first LeTourneau men's golfer to earn ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the sport. The 2024 ASC co-Golfer of the Year and first team All-ASC selection, Schneider led the team in scoring average at 73.21 on the year, while accumulating a team-best six top-10 finishes and 12 rounds at or better than par. His low round score of 5-under, 66 at the Alamo City Classic led the YellowJackets. He finished tied for 16th at the ASC Tournament and was a two-time ASC Golfer of the Week honoree during the season. Schneider opened the season with medalist honors at the Tempest Intercollegiate with a 7-under, 209 in the 54-hole tournament. Majoring in business accounting, Schneider earned CSC Academic All-District and will be a two-time ASC Academic All-Conference honoree.

Cortes, a senior from Houston, Texas, earned All-ASC honorable mention and was a CSC Academic All-District selection. In 2024, he made a career-high 18 appearances going 19.2 innings and collecting two saves on the year. Cortes struck out 34 in those 19.2 innings and had nine scoreless outings. Majoring in civil engineering, Cortes will be a four-time ASC Academic All-Conference honoree.

Liebengood, a junior from Longview, Texas, earned third team All-ASC in 2023-24 and CSC Academic All-District. He was also named the LeTourneau Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He had a breakout season on the court and was second on the team in scoring at 16.0 points per game and led the YellowJackets with 7.6 rebounds per game. His eight double-doubles led LeTourneau and was fifth in the ASC. Liebengood scored 20-plus points in a game seven times with 23 double-digit point games and earned ASC All-Tournament honors after averaging 24 points and nine rebounds in two games to help lead the YellowJackets to the semifinal round. Liebengood, majoring in scripture and theology, will be a three-time ASC Academic All-Conference honoree.

Jordan, a junior from Gilmer, Texas, earned All-ASC honorable mention and ASC All-Defensive team honors in 2023-24. She averaged a double-double of 13.4 points and 11.5 rebounds per game, while posting 3.3 blocks per contest. Jordan led the ASC in rebounding and blocked shots, and was one of two players in the league to average a double-double for the year. Her 11.5 rebounds per game ranks third all-time in a season in program history. Jordan broke the LeTourneau single-season record for blocks (73) and blocks per game (3.3). She set the single-game program record for blocks with 10 at Arlington Baptist (Nov. 17) and became the first player in the program's NCAA-era to register a triple-double. Majoring in general business, she will become a two-time ASC Academic All-Conference selection and garnered CSC Academic All-District this season.

Dugan, a sophomore from Lake Oswego, Ore., earned second team All-ASC honors in cross country in 2023 and was second team in the 10,000-meter event at the ASC Championships in the spring. He earned his second straight All-ASC honor in cross country after placing eighth with a time of 26:26.6 at the ASC Championships (Oct. 28). Dugan won the Nicole Leman Invitational (Sept. 2) for a second straight year with a three-mile time of 15:34.4. Majoring in mechanical engineering, he earned CSC Academic All-District and will become a two-time ASC Academic All-Conference honoree.

Greenwald, a sophomore from Tucson, Ariz., earned All-ASC second team in cross country in the fall. She led the team in all meets during the year and earned second team All-ASC honors after placing 13th with a time of 24:27.3 at the ASC Championships (Oct. 28). Greenwald won the Nicole Leman Invitational (Sept. 2) for a second straight year with a three-mile time of 19:46.4. She was named ASC Runner of the Week on Sept. 26 after placing 15th at the McNeese Cowboy Stampede (Sept. 23) with a 5k time of 19:47.8. Majoring in mechanical engineering, she will become a two-time ASC Academic All-Conference honoree.

Newell, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, earned All-ASC second team honors this season and will be named to the CSC Academic All-District team. She led the team with seven top-10 finishes and was second in scoring average at 80.05 for the season. Newell became the first player in program history to shoot under-par in a round with her 1-under, 71 in the first round of the ASC Preview (Sept. 16) and she set a program record for low 36-hole tournament score of 147. Newell also had a pair of 74s, including in the second round of the ASC Championship (April 28-30) where she finished 14th with a 234 (80-74-80). Majoring in chemistry, she will become a two-time ASC Academic All-Conference selection.

Roberdeau, a junior from Spearfish, S.D., earned CSC Academic All-District honors for a second straight year. He played in 16 matches and made 15 starts and tallied two assists on the year while manning the outside back. Roberdeau recorded an assist in a win over Schreiner (Sept. 22) and had another helper in a draw against McMurry (Oct. 7). Majoring in mechanical engineering, he will earn his third ASC Academic All-Conference honor.

Lessert, a senior from Carrollton, Texas, earned third team All-ASC this season and CSC Academic All-District honors for a second straight year. She tallied two goals and one assist on the year and scored the game-winning goal in a comeback win over Hendrix (Oct. 10). Lessert notched a score against East Texas Baptist (Oct. 14) in a draw. A key player on the outside, she played at least 70 minutes in a match nine times during the season and aided in six shutouts. Lessert, majoring in biomedical engineering, will become a three-time ASC Academic All-Conference selection.

Grisham, a junior from Huntsville, Texas, earned second team All-ASC in 2024 and is a three-time All-ASC selection at three different positions. She hit .283 with four home runs and a team-best 28 RBIs on the year. Grisham tallied 27 runs scored, nine multi-hit games, and seven multi-RBI games. The junior had a team-high 11-game hitting streak during the year. Grisham, majoring in general business, earned CSC Academic All-District honors and will be a three-time ASC Academic All-Conference selection.

Farris, a sophomore from Lucas, Texas, earned All-ASC and All-East Division first team in doubles with teammate Chase Rogers in 2024. In doubles, went 13-2 in dual matches, including 4-0 in ASC play, and 15-5 overall for the year. In singles, Farris collected nine wins on the year and was invited to the prestigious Ojai Tennis Tournament in California where he advanced to the quarterfinals of the main singles draw with a pair of wins. Farris, majoring in business finance, earned CSC Academic All-District and will be a two-time ASC Academic All-Conference honoree.

LeBlanc, a junior from Willis, Texas, earned All-ASC and All-East Division first team accolades with teammate Ggrace Rogers in 2024. She and Rogers went 15-6 overall in doubles and 13-5 in dual matches while going a perfect 4-0 against ASC foes. LeBlanc played all singles and doubles matches at the No. 1 flight. Majoring in kinesiology, LeBlanc earned CSC Academic All-District this season and ASC Academic All-Conference.

McGuire, a junior from Cibolo, Texas, is a two-time CSC Academic All-District selection. He ranked regionally in the indoor 800-meter event this season and was fourth in the 3,000-meter steeple at the ASC Championships with a personal record time. He also set personal-bests in three other events during the track season. Majoring in mechanical engineering, McGuire will become a three-time ASC Academic All-Conference selection.

Bass, a sophomore from Gainesville, Texas, was the ASC Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year for women's track in 2024. She was part of the program-record 4x400 team at the ASC Championships and had regionally-ranked times in three events during the indoor season. Bass earned CSC Academic All-District honors. Majoring in counseling psychology, Bass will be a two-time ASC Academic All-Conference selection and was the R.G. LeTourneau Legacy Award recipient this year.

Smith, a senior from San Antonio, was an All-ASC first team selection in 2023 and earned LeTourneau Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. She averaged a career-high 0.94 blocks per set, which ranked fourth in the ASC, and totaled 1.56 kills per set with a team-best hitting percentage of .268. Smith became the program's career leader in total blocks as she finished with 343 over her four years. Smith, majoring in nursing, is a three-time All-ASC selection, four-time ASC Academic All-Conference honoree, and a two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree.
