LONGVIEW, Texas -- Two second-half goals from
Syed Zain and
Nate Bransford launched LeTourneau men's soccer to a 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon, with Bransford's first collegiate goal in the 90th minute the difference.
LeTourneau improves to 2-2-2, while Schreiner falls to 1-5.Â
Bransford and Zain, two experienced seniors, were told to get ready on the sideline for a late second half push, entering in the 65th minute. At that point, the YellowJackets trailed 1-0, which had been the score since the 6th minute of the first half.Â
Boy, were they ready.
As urgency increased, LeTourneau began pushing further and further upfield, trying to give themselves a chance to score the tying goal. Finally, in the 82nd minute, a gorgeous pass from
Diego Enriquez found Zain all alone on the right side of the net, who placed a perfect header past the diving Schreiner keeper for the game-tying goal.
The YellowJackets were not done, however.
The push continued as both teams raced up and down the pitch, looking for any window of opportunity. LeTourneau got one final chance with under a minute to go, and an entry pass from
Caleb Nelson found
Garrett Thom, who slipped a pass across the goal line betwixt multiple players to Bransford, who slid and punched it into the bottom left corner with eight seconds remaining.
Edson Camara Martinez recorded two saves in the match for the YellowJackets, as he continues to show excellent instincts between the posts.
For Schreiner, Zaaron Gonzalez recorded his third goal of the season, while keeper Marco Ramos stopped two shots.
