Men's Soccer Shuts Out Austin College in 1-0 Victory

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau men's soccer team defeated Austin College 1-0, on Saturday evening inside of the Joyce Family Athletic Village. A goal off the foot of Emad Mohamed propelled the YelowJackets to victory in this defensive battle.

Mohamed scored his goal in the 60th minute of the match, brilliantly taking advantage of a misplay by the Austin College goalkeeper Jayson Baldwin, who was unable to control the rebound after a shot by Caleb Nelson. This misplay left Mohamed with a prime scoring opportunity. Rising to the occasion, Mohamed ripped a shot, which found the back of the net. This clutch shot by Mohamed would be the difference in the match.

The first half of the match was a defensive battle, with both teams only able to attempt single digit shots. This has been a trend for LeTourneau (3-2-2) who has now played five straight matches without a loss. They are 3-0-2 in their last five matches. This unbeaten streak is thanks to brilliant defense by the YellowJackets, headed by their keeper Edson Camara Martinez, who notched his third shutout of the season in this match.

Camara Martinez tallied eight saves in the victory over the Roos, marking the third time he has had seven or more saves in a match this season. Just one save came in the first half for the YellowJackets keeper. The remaining seven came in the second half, with four of them coming in the final 10 minutes of the match. This great play by Camara Martinez has been paired with great defensive play from Bridger Roberdeau, Kristian Princ, and Jordan Beltran, who have made up the LeTourneau back-line in the unbeaten streak.

Nelson has been a key player for the YellowJackets in the last two matches, as he has marked an assist in both victories. He now has five assists on his career and two on the season.
